La Société Baxter

The Baxter Society is a brotherhood of monster hunters founded shortly after the first Maelström, when creatures from the Astral Gates began devouring those who could not defend themselves. Where the OSIC classifies and conceals, Baxter tracks down and kills.

Its members are specialists: trackers, marksmen, and makeshift exorcists. They pass down empirical knowledge about the creatures’ weaknesses, knowledge recorded in jealously guarded hunting journals. The Society is funded by contracts, sometimes with private individuals, sometimes with institutions that prefer not to know how the work is done.

Not all recruits remain loyal to the cause. Some leave the Society for personal reasons; others leave after a disagreement over what is worth hunting—and the line between hunter and prey is thinner than one might think.
